City’s Crime Rate Drops

Santa Clarita ranked 3rd Safest City in California for 2006

According to the California Department of Justice, the City of Santa Clarita was the third safest city in California following Irvine and Glendale.  Santa Clarita experienced a 5.7 percent increase in its population for 2006, but violent and property crimes in the City dropped 4.6 percent over the previous year.   in 2006 for cities with a population of 150,000 or more, following

Property crimes dropped 7.7 percent in 2006.  These include burglary, robbery, theft, and grand auto theft.  Violent crimes, although still low, saw a slight increase in 2006, from 336 to 392.

Crime prevention efforts and programs, including the Community Interaction Team, the COBRA Team, the neighborhood watch programs and awareness programs, all contribute the Santa Clarita’s vigilance for community safety. 

“The Santa Clarita City Council and the Sheriffs’ department are committed to improving community safety and we work together with the community to assure that adequate resources are expended to help keep our community safe,” explains Ken Pulskamp, City Manager for Santa Clarita.

Each of the proactive law enforcement and prevention programs is also aimed at keeping the crime rate low and residents safe.  Officials credit the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriffs Station and the City of Santa Clarita’s proactive approach to dealing with crime-related issues as one of the reasons for the continued low crime rate.
