“Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”: Forecast Calls For A Great Evening

khts_atthemoviesAs I said last week, there are two categories for animated films, Pixar and everyone else. Now, while the everyone else category doesn’t necessarily mean that the movie is bad, it just means you can’t expect artistic greatness. Last week I thought “9” was amazing because it had a lot of great visuals and ideas, and this week I loved “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs because its sole mission is to entertain and it passes that goal with flying spaghetti.

The movie is based on the popular children’s book of the same name and is about young scientist Flint Lockwood voiced by Bill Hader (“SNL”, “Superbad”, “Adventureland”) who wants to invent something that changes the world. He lives with his technophobe father (voiced by James Caan) and is looked at as a complete loser. Then one day he invents a machine that can create food out of water and while this is a great way to solve world hunger (Bono would be proud) it soon goes awry. His machine gets trapped in the sky creating massive amounts of food that overrun his town and later the whole world. Soon ice cream, spaghetti, and man-eating chickens rain from the sky and hilarity ensues. Also in the cast are Anna Farris (“The House Bunny”, “Waiting…”) as weather girl Sam Sparks who takes a liking to Flint, Bruce Campbell (“Army of Darkness”, “Evil Dead”) as the Mayor, Mr. T as the town’s police captain, and other big names including Andy Samberg, Benjamin Bratt, and Neil Patrick Harris.

This movie was an absolute blast and I only discourage you from seeing it if you hate kids, haven’t eaten in days, or engaged in any sort of activity where hunger is induced.

cloudywithchanceofmeatballsOtherwise go see this movie, preferably in 3D because you will salivate like Homer Simpson at the site of all that food. If this does not sound enticing then there’s also the potentially Oscar-worthy Comedy “The Informant” with Matt Damon, Megan Fox eating boys in “Jennifer’s Body”, Jennifer Aniston and Aaron “Two Face” Eckhart in “Love Happens” which I guess is a movie where at some point love happens.

Thank You for reading and stay tuned as next week I go into the future to fight robots with Bruce Willis in “Surrogates”.

Remember you can catch these and other great films at your local Edwards Cinema. Click here for show times.
