Canyon Country campus dedicates first facility to Carl Rasmussen.
In a bright clear day on the Canyon Country Campus of
College of the Canyons, school officials gathered to formally unveil a tribute
to a man well known to the history books in Santa Clarita; Carl Rasmussen.
A monument with his name and a well remembered quote was
officially dedicated in the new amphitheatre overlooking the hills of Canyon
Country.
Rasmussen was responsible for bringing about the creation of
many homes and streets in Santa Clarita.
He was remembered by his son, Larry Rasmussen, who said; “Dad
was a gentle, honest guy.”
Larry went on to describe the time he wanted to go out on
the town with then high school friend Frank Zappa. His father Carl refused to
let him go, saying “Don’t confuse where you’re going with who you are going
with.”

The younger Rasmussen recalled that it took several weeks
before he understood what his father meant, and the advice still guides him to
this day. For that meaning, the Rasmussen family chose the quote to adorn the
monument, located in a location where college students pass on a daily basis.
The monument, the first of its kind dedicated at the Canyon
Country Campus, was unveiled in the company of COC Trustees, Santa Clarita
Mayor Bob Kellar, and members of the Rasmussen family.
