Left turn capability may come within days
[view:node_ad=5]When College of the Canyon’s new campus in Canyon Country opened, it immediately saw an influx of 3,000 students. While that provided for educational accolades, it also overwhelmed a new traffic pattern leading in and out of the school that is still evolving.
A traffic light was to be installed at the campus exit before school started, which would have done much to ease traffic in the area. The light is still coming; however, some permits delays have pushed it back a few weeks.
The result was an intersection guided by a three way stop sign. Left turns were also prohibited for the time being, but School officials are rushing to fix that problem.
Currently, permits have been approved by County and City agencies, and construction on a two lane exit will begin now. That could mean that a larger exit road could be utilized by drivers as early as Wednesday or Thursday, barring no major delays. The two lane exit would have a dedicated left turn lane.
And the traffic light shouldn’t be too far behind. All of the equipment has already been purchased, and once all final permits are approved, the construction of traffic lights should take approximately three weeks.
