College of the Canyons‘ Fall 2013 Job and Career Fair on Oct. 9 saw nearly 60 businesses and organizations connect with more than 700 applicants.

Job seekers were able to talk with potential employers face to face and employers conducted interviews and collected resumes. Some even started hiring.
“I noticed a significant increase in the number of candidates filling out applications at the fair,” said Anthony Michaelides, director of Career Services. “Several individuals left saying that they already had interviews arranged for later that week, and a few said that they had been made job offers on the spot.”
KHTS AM-1220 partnered with the college’s Career Center to offer “resume pick-up and delivery” for businesses that could not be in attendance. By adding a “virtual job fair” component to the event, job seekers could apply with businesses online.
As a result, 13 additional businesses received more than 100 targeted resumes for currently open positions, via email.
“We feel the virtual job fair went very well, and have plans to expand it and offer it again at the college’s spring fair,” said Roby Marshall of KHTS, who oversaw this new interactive part of the fair.
