“Cabaret” and “Tartuffe” tryouts this weekend
[view:node_ad=5]College of the Canyons is inviting students to come to the school this weekend to try out for the Tony award wining Broadway musical “Cabaret,” and Moliere classic “Tartuffe.”
The open tryouts will be held on Saturday August 25th at 12:00, and Monday, August 27th at 6:00pm in the Black Box Theatre, which is behind the Performing Arts Center.
“Cabaret” will put students in the spotlight as they dance, sing and act in the live production that will open October 19th.
COC is looking for both female and male leads to play Cliff Bradshaw and Sally Bowles, however many supporting characters and dancers will also be cast.
The show will be directed by COC Theatre department teacher Mark Salyer, and will call on a number of other COC resources such as dance instructor Shannon Levy-Heath, and director of performing music KC Manji.
And starting November 14th, the school will put on another production. “Tartuffe,” from Moliere will take to the stage. For this comedy, the College promises an added modern twist, supplied by director Andrea Slominski.
According to the college, female students auditioning for “Cabaret” are encouraged to practice the production’s title-song “Cabaret.” Male students auditioning for the production will be asked to perform the song “Wilkommen.” All students auditioning for “Tartuffe” are asked to read the entire play.
Students interested only in auditioning for “Tartuffe” can request to not be seen for “Cabaret.” However all students auditioning for “Cabaret” must read for “Tartuffe” as well.
It is also important to know that students who are cast in either production must enroll in the college’s Theatre 190: Theatre Production class for the fall semester.
