Students and parents from Hart District high schools are invited to a College of the Canyons SCV College2Career Day to meet representatives from more than 25 colleges and universities and learn more about entrance requirements, tuition and specialties at each school. This free event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 9 at the COC Valencia Campus.
Students are invited to pick up literature from the colleges participating and ask questions of the representatives at the event. COC representatives will also be available to discuss programs through the community college and transfer programs and requirements.
Colleges and universities participating, include UC Berkeley, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Northridge, Humboldt State, UCLA School of Nursing, UC Merced, USC, University of La Verne, Mount St. Mary’s, Occidental College, Westmont College, Woodbury University, Brookes Institute, Fresno Pacific University, University of Washington, University of Oregon, Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, US Naval Academy, West Point Academy, California Lutheran University, Loyola Marymount University, Temple University, National University, Kansas State University, New York Film Academy, New School of Architecture and Design and Universal Technical Institute.
In addition to the college fair, COC is offering workshops throughout the morning to help students make the connection between their educational goals and career options. A workshop entitled “Many Ways to Win” will focus on the three major areas of life after high school: identifying a career, getting a job and earning a living.
There will also be hands-on activities and interactive demonstrations by COC faculty members about various academic and career technical education opportunities. The focus will be on exploring career paths that a college education can help prepare students for.
College of the Canyons departments scheduled to participate in the event include welding, land surveying, computer networking, electronics, EMT, fire technology, culinary arts, hotel and restaurant management, water systems technology, photography, animation, paralegal and many more.
