College of the Canyons Theatre Department Season To Open Oct. 10

“Fuddy Meers” tells the story of Claire, who suffers from a rare form of amnesia that erases her memory whenever she goes to sleep.

Claire’s husband, the ever-helpful Richard, compiles a book about Claire’s life and she goes through the pages each day in bed to help remember some of her previous life. One day, Claire meets a ski-masked man who claims her husband wants to kill her and whisks her away to safety marking only the beginning of her adventure.

Each hilarious twist and turn in “Fuddy Meers” shows Claire’s journey to regain her memory as she encounters truly bizarre and one-of-a-kind characters.

“Fuddy Meers” is directed by Stephen Whelan, who has also directed COC theatre productions of “The Importance of Being Earnest,” “Of Mice and Men,” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

“This play, to loosely quote Tennessee Williams, is a memory play,” Whelan said. “David Lindsay-Abiare poses the question, ‘What happens when the memory is distorted?’ The playwright explores how we are all connected, and, like our side view mirror’s prophesy, ‘Things are closer than they appear.’”

The COC theatre production of “Fuddy Meers” will open at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) Black Box Theatre according to a College of The Canyons news release.
