Hart district board member Joe Messina said he was driving westbound on Creekside Road around 4:45 p.m. Friday when a bicyclist crossed the road in front of him.
“This investigation is not being treated as a criminal investigation at this point, it’s being treated as a traffic incident,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The incident is still under investigation by the traffic unit.
“My heart goes out to the family of the bike rider,” Messina said. “My prayer is for a quick and speedy recovery, and I want to thank the Sheriff’s Department and the Fire Department for their quick and professional response.”
“Every witness at the scene said he darted out in front of the cars on a crosswalk,” Messina said. “The last I heard he was having a CTscan done at Henry Mayo.”
Messina said he was making a delivery at the nearby Post Office before it closed when the collision occurred. He was going about 20 mph when the collision occurred, he said.
Messina was asked to take a blood test at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, which is part of a standard investigation procedure for vehicle collisions involving serious injury.
The second incident involved a pedestrian crossing the street at Wiley Canyon Road, near the Walgreen’s in Newhall, around 1 p.m., Sheriff’s Station officials said.
The extent of the injuries of either victim was not released by officials.
Both collisions were under investigation. There were no arrests made in either collision, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.
