“We selected this production because of its powerful writing, relevant themes and vibrant characters,” said Paul Wickline, chair of the COC theatre department and the play’s producer. “But most importantly, it has allowed the students in our program an opportunity to apply the skills they have been learning in the classroom, to the stage.”
Focusing on themes of escape, personal re-invention and the American dream, “subUrbia” follows the evening activities of a group of aimless 20-somethings living in suburban New Jersey.
“This production has been a great opportunity for me to work on such raw material,” said COC theatre major Devin Heath, who has been cast in the role of ‘Buff.’ “I’ve spent my entire life growing up in Santa Clarita, and to me‘subUrbia’ really captures the language of angst associated with growing up in the suburbs.”
