The group’s first official meeting is set for Wednesday, December 6 at 6:30 p.m. at New Moon in Santa Clarita.

Members are asked to make a one-year commitment, which will include quarterly hour-long meetings. Each meeting, members learn about local charities in Santa Clarita, and each donates $100 to a charity that the group chooses. The total amassed after 100 women donate $100 each is $10,000 for the selected charity.

The large donation amount is gathered without the time-consuming fundraising effort and planning, and can make a huge impact for these charities, officials said.

The purpose is to help the Santa Clarita community by keeping the funds local and connecting with other nonprofits within Santa Clarita, explains the 100 Women Who Care website.

All checks will be made out to the chosen charity and will be 100 percent tax deductible.

The names of three pre-nominated nonprofits will be drawn randomly at each meeting. The members who nominated these charities will then have a chance to speak for five minutes about how the 100 Women Who Care contribution could support their cause. Organizations can be nominated on their website at www.100wwcscv.org/charity-nomination-forms.

After the presentations are concluded, members will vote on which nonprofit to support. Once an organization is chosen, all checks are made out to that charity.

“A worthy cause benefits the entire community,” says 100 Women Who Care’s Facebook page.

Those interested in participating can visit the 100 Women Who Care website, www.100wwcscv.org to find more information and complete a commitment form, as well as a charity pre-qualification form.
