This year marks the 25th annual Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, and to celebrate the silver anniversary, general admission to the event has been made free for all attendees, according to city officials.
“Upon entering historic William S. Hart Park, guests will enjoy access to 40 unique western gear vendors, where you can purchase handmade crafts, cowboy hats, boots and more,” read a statement for the event from the city of Santa Clarita. “Cowboy Festival activities such as archery, hatchet throwing and mechanical bull riding all make a return this year, and you can take a break from the fun and excitement with food from your choice of different cowboy cuisine vendors and libations from one of the Wolf Creek beer gardens stationed around the park.”
When guests first walk through the entrance of William S. Hart Park, they are greeted by friendly volunteers who dressed in full cowboy attire and passing out flyers for the event. One joked with guests, saying that they could still use the programs as fans during the hot day if they did not know how to read.
Many vendors lined the sides of the festival, selling everything from western books to cowboy accessories to food. The peach cobbler was especially popular Saturday afternoon, as guests could be seen eating it across the festival.
Activities for children were scattered throughout the event. A small mechanical bull and an archery booth were set up, as well as various displays and exhibits for children to explore. Near the back of the festival, an inflatable obstacle course is set up.
In addition to the various free activities and stages at Hart Park, the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival has also taken over the Canyon Theatre Guild and The MAIN venues, with performances from Savannah Burrows, Honey County, and Detroit Sportsmen’s Congress.
