Boy Scouts To Allow Girls To Join In 2019, Changing Program Name To ‘Scouts BSA’

The announcement comes less than a year after the Boy Scouts decided to invite girls to join.

“Families today are busier and more diverse than ever,” Boy Scouts of America officials said in a statement about the change. “Most are dual-earners and there are more single-parent households than ever before, making convenient programs that serve the whole family more appealing.”

The name change only applies to the Boy Scouts program, which is meant for children ages 11-17. The Cub Scouts program, for children ages 5-10, will retain the name. Boy Scouts of America, the organization which oversees scouting programs, will also retain it’s original name.

The Boy Scouts of America has seen declining membership numbers in recent years. The organization currently has nearly 2.3 million youth members between 5 and 21, a decrease from the 2.8 million members in 2012, according to officials.

In a statement from the Boy Scouts of America, officials said that more than 3,000 girls have joined the Early Adopter Program and are participating in Cub Scouts ahead of the full launch later this year.

“Cub Scouts is a lot of fun, and now it’s available to all kids,” said Stephen Medlicott, national marketing group director of Boy Scouts of America. “That’s why we love (the new program), because it speaks to girls and boys and tells them, ‘This is for you. We want you to join.'”

  1. So are the Girl Scouts now Toast? Or will they be accepting boys?

  2. The body of the article is correct, while the title and subtitle are incorrect. The name of the program, not the organization, is changing.

Also there’s a grammar error with it’s/its. The latter is possessive, not the former.
