Multiple buildings are set to be demolished next week as Santa Clarita makes way for a new Canyon Country Community Center on Sierra Highway.

The Santa Clarita City Council has invited the public to attend a demolition event at the site of the future Canyon Country Community Center, located on the corner of Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway, on Tuesday, March 20 at 10:30 a.m.

As part of the construction process for the new Canyon Country Community Center, the city of Santa Clarita is expected to begin the demolition of city-owned buildings at the site.

A brief speaking program will take place at the northeast corner of Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway, and will be followed by the beginning phases of demolition on the current, vacant structure.

As part of the Santa Clarita 2020 plan, the City of Santa Clarita is constructing a new, permanent Canyon Country Community Center to replace the existing one on Flying Tiger Drive.

Roughly ten businesses were or will be relocated to make way for the new Canyon Country Community Center, which will include a gym, computer technology room, teaching kitchen, community and fitness rooms, open play areas and outdoor walkways.

Toppers Pizza and Casa Vieja are the only businesses that will remain, and plan to become incorporated into the new center, according to city officials.

The city plans on breaking ground for the new center this year and will ideally have it fully operational by 2020, at which point the current temporary center, located at the intersection of Via Princessa and Sierra Hwy., will be decommissioned.
