The California “clean air” stickers that have allowed Santa Clarita residents to use the carpool lane alone are set to expire at the end of 2018.

Starting Jan. 1, 2019, only car owners who purchased fuel-efficient vehicles from 2017 to 2018 will be able to use the High-Occupancy Vehicle lanes, or carpool lanes, without a passenger
Originally, the green and white clean air stickers were said to be available for the first 40,000 applicants that purchased or leased cars meeting California’s transitional zero-emission vehicles requirement, according to the California Air Resources Board.
But later, there were no limits on how many stickers could be issued, according to the organization.
The original, green and white stickers were meant to encourage people to buy more fuel-efficient cars. However, those types of vehicles are becoming popular on California highways.
As a result of these vehicles becoming popular, the California Air Resources Board feels that reducing the amount of cars in the carpool lane will increase travel times for drivers in the fast lane.
Car owners who purchased a low-emission vehicle between 2017 and 2018 are eligible to receive a red replacement clean air sticker that expires in 2022.

And here you thought you were going to ride the carpool lanes forever. Nope. Now only cars built in 2017-18 will get a red sticker good till 2022, but see how fast even that disappears.
They just need to enforce the current law that prohibits vehicles not permitted to access the HOV lane. My drive is 32 miles. I see 15+ drivers daily that do not belong in the HOV lane crossing over solid lines right in front of police who I guess have better things to do besides uphold current laws. I have now purchased two vehicles for the stickers only to find it of no value.
Ya just gotta love California!!
The carpool lanes have been inefficient in many areas anyways, now they’ll be completely USELESS.
I’m getting out of California as soon as I can. This place is becoming a joke and the crime is only going to increase as criminals realize they will very rarely go to jail or prison and don’t have to be held on bail. We have no leaders, only vote guzzling charlatans that care about themselves.
