On May 6, the Canyon Country campus of College of the Canyons held the first ever CanyonsFest Music Festival in celebration of the campus’ 10th anniversary.
“We wanted to welcome people to campus and we thought a music festival would be a great way to do that,” said Eric Harnish, vice president of public information at College of the Canyons.
The event hosted local country music artists to perform for the community, while also using the opportunity to show off the many resources College of the Canyons has to offer.
The concert event featured performances from Savannah Burrows, Mary White and Magnolia Drawl, Robert Heft Blues Band, Sue Rey and The Runarounds and Baile Folklórico student dancers at the Carl A. Rasmussen Amphitheatre.
“I’m so grateful that COC and the city and everybody that supports me allowed me this opportunity,” said Burrows. “It was such a blast. I loved connecting with the audience, and I just love what I do.”
At the festival, Burrows shared the story of how watching Taylor Swift perform inspired her to pick up a guitar and start writing her own music. She went on to win the 2016 KHTS Country Showdown, which drew thousands of country music fans.
Other services were also present at CanyonsFest, including food trucks, children’s activities, and vendor booths.
Information about campus programs, services, and class registration opportunities were also available during the festival.
