The City’s Community Preservation Division sent the notice after learning that the owners allegedly installed multiple solar panels on the hillsides “within and outside of the mobile home park,” according to City officials.

“The code enforcement case remains open and is actively being pursued by staff with the City Attorney’s office,” said Daniel Rivas, community preservation manager.

The notice of violation directed the property owners to remove the solar panels, but City staff did not specify the timeframe for removal or the punishment if the owners did not comply.

The owners reportedly did not obtain permits for the solar panels and did not comply with the conditions of approval associated with the conditional use permit for the park, according to City officials.

Those conditions of approval require that 50 percent of the property be maintained as open space.

All mobile home parks are generally under the jurisdiction of the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).

City staff have been working with the HCD and Los Angeles County to obtain and review file materials concerning the solar project as well as the conditional use permit, which was originally issued by County officials, according to a statement put out by the City of Santa Clarita.

The review indicated that Canyon View Estates should have sought additional entitlements from the City and is in violation of the conditional use permit conditions of approval, officials said.

“While the City supports efforts to move to renewable energy, the City takes seriously its responsibility to enforce conditions of approval designed to protect the quality of life in Santa Clarita, balancing the need for development with the preservation of open space,” officials said in the statement.

  1. are the those ugly solar panels you see on the hill side? Like some dropped a deck of cards and forgot to pick em up… I can’t believe the city would allow this eye sore

  2. How did they think nobody would object to these eye sore panels so haphazardly placed on the hillsides, some of which was not even their property? SCV has strict code enforcement.

  3. Forget The penalty get rid of them the city knew about them when they were being built and did nothing .

  4. We have such a beautiful city. How was that allowed? Let’s not make the decisions of a few effect all of us. It looks ridiculous. The owner is making over a thousand dollars a month per space. He is stuffing his pockets please don’t allow his solar electric panels give him more money and leave this eye sore to all of us.

  5. Those panels are such an eyesore! I’m hoping they are ordered to eliminate them permanently! The city should not allow these to remain.
