C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation is a national, non-profit organization that works with local governmental agencies, organizations and businesses to stage outdoor fishing events for disabled and disadvantaged youth ranging in age from 7-14.
Agencies and organizations helping C.A.S.T for Kids and the Department of Water Resources with
this event include Santa Clarita Valley Water, Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation – Castaic Lake, Friends of Castaic Lake, Castaic Lions Club and many others.
This year we have invited 45 children from the local community to participate, along with approximately 75 volunteers. All participating children, paired with a volunteer boater/captain, will have an opportunity to go out on the lake and learn how to fish for several hours.
Each angler is educated about boating safety, angler ethics, and the importance of our environment and natural resources. Refreshments, a barbecue luncheon for all the participants and volunteers, and an awards ceremony will follow.
This is an outstanding community events story that will provide these extraordinary children with memories of a day of fishing on a lake that, due to their financial or medical situation, may never experience again.
The event is set for 8 a.m. on Oct. 6 at Castaic Lake.
