Traffic impacts and decor were two of the numerous complaints brought forth by Castaic residents discussing a Taco Bell location that already has a foundation in place.

The 2,170-square-foot fast food restaurant is being built north of the Lake Hughes off-ramp on the Old Road.

The owner of the Taco Bell franchise and the Town Council listened to concerns, but ultimately, the council’s advisory capacity would leave it without the final say, officials said Thursday.

“The owner of the Taco Bell wants to work with residents to make it as safe as possible,” said Castaic Town Council member John Kunak. “Ultimately, the Town Council, and residents of Castaic, won’t have a say on whether the Taco Bell will be built, but the county is good at following recommendations from the council.”

Los Angeles County officials laid out the plan for the community at Wednesday’s Castaic Town Council Meeting.

The Taco Bell location is expected to have 24 parking spaces, and no outdoor seating.

In an effort to mitigate traffic impact, the Taco Bell will only have one driveway where customers can enter and exit.

The drive-thru will also be moved away from the street to prevent traffic from backing up onto The Old Road.

At the Castaic Town Council meeting yesterday, CalTrans officials said that only one incident occurs at the intersection of The Old Road and the Lake Hughes off-ramp per year.

“CalTrans didn’t have accurate information,” said Kunak, “because I see many of the accidents that occur there, and most of them go unreported.”

CalTrans also estimated that at peak hours in the morning there would be 100 customers per hour, and in the peak hours of the night, there would be 71 customers per hour.

The entrance to the Taco Bell will be directly across from the Stallion Place cul-de-sac, which officials said was the safest place for cars to exit the lot.

There were no final decisions made with respect to the restaurant location, and a recommendation has not been made, yet, either for or against.

  1. I’ve only lived there since July 2016 and I’ve seen four accidents on that corner. Two involving big-rigs, I’m afraid that one of those trucks is going to do some real damage if it loses control on the off ramp! I know my family will not be sitting in that Taco Bell anytime soon.
Seems like a real no brainer but what do I know, I’m just a nurse!

  2. Why build another building in Castaic when there so many that are not being used it’s like a ghost town

    • Because the guy already owns the property and does not want to pay the high rent of the other buildings. The reason this town is a ghost town is due to high rent.

  3. It seems as though ‘Castaic’ has been in the. news a LOT lately.. each time, ‘Castaic residents’ are moaning and complaining about something (mostly about ‘growth’ in and around our truck stop home.

We want our ‘hill’ maintained; but we vote against any increase in fees (twice!)… now the county wants to punish us for our inflexibility by doubling our fees? (Kind of serves us right) …

We want a high school.. (‘we’) complain about the location..

    Although I do feel for my neighbors in Val Verde, that dump has been there longer than most residence who purchased there when the dump was already there. The dump (sorry, ‘Landfill’) has owned that land and always had the intention to expand if/when it needed;

‘We’ don’t want new homes built; apparently EVER ..

So Why on earth would ‘we’ want a Taco Bell built?

I bought new home on Hillcrest 21 years ago. I was ok (even GOOD) with the homes that tore apart the natural hill west of the elementary school (if you live up past the elementary school … consider that if you want to complain about “more” homes being built).

Growth in Castaic? BRING IT ON!!

GROWTH does not always equal BAD. In fact; I’m still holding out hope that someday.. Castaic will be significant enough to tear down the AWFUL chain link fencing, that other than being a great trap for tons of trash and tumble weeds.., it also separates our lives from Interstate 5.

Does the ‘squeaky wheel’ really get what it wants … or is it just seen as nothing but ANNOYING and no one wants to deal with it?
