There are approximately 64,000 children in foster care in California, according to officials.

Children’s Bureau offers a comprehensive foster care and adoption program that matches hundreds of children to loving homes every year, according to officials.

“Fostering is a meaningful way for individuals and couples to make an impact on a child’s life,” said a Children’s Bureau news release.

The agency is always in need of resource families to care for children while they are in the process of reunifying with their birth families.

The role of resource parents are to protect and nurture children, meet children’s developmental needs, support children’s relationships with their birth families and do all of this as a member of a professional team.

Children’s Bureau welcomes every foster and foster-adoptive parent regardless of, race, age, religion, disability, marital status, ethnic background, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

Qualifying families receive training, certification and support from the Children’s Bureau, according to officials.

“You love that child for the time that they’re with you and you provide nurture the child, and those learning experiences are something that they wouldn’t be able to get in their current environment,” said a Children’s Bureau resource parent in the statement from the Children’s Bureau.

In honor of National Foster Care Month in May, Children’s Bureau launched a new series of videos featuring resource parents including family stories and answers to most often asked questions.

These videos can be found on the Children’s Bureau’s YouTube channel.

Santa Clarita residents interested in learning more about becoming a resource parent, Children’s Bureau is hosting an informational meeting on May 19 at College of the Canyons, Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, Room 222, located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
