The nonprofit has been a helping hand to cancer patients in Santa Clarita for the past 14 years, providing them with educational, emotional and financial support, and in recent years have began to think about what more they could do.

“We found that there is a real need for additional and ancillary services to people who are in treatment, who have come out of treatment,” said Pam Ripling, Executive Director of Circle of Hope. “Because our mission is to reduce stress and improve chances of healing we thought there is a lot of things we could be adding to our services, and thus Hopes Haven was born.”

The center will provide a variety of programs to benefit its clients ranging from yoga classes to acupuncture sessions, monthly workshops, one-on-one therapy sessions with counselors and a few other out of the box activities.

“Hopes Haven will be providing classes, workshops and one on one therapies by appointment,” Ripling said. “We will be offering things like oncology massage, gentle yoga, acupuncture, guided imagery, we’re even gonna take cancer patients to the forest on field trips. We’ve got ideas you’ve never even heard of before.”

The idea for the center had been floating around for a few years, while Circle of Hope worked on building resources and contacts and finding out exactly what the needs of the community were.

“It was a leap of faith because it’s a scary thing to add a big spin-off to your business,” said Ripling. “It required us to find new space. We had been talking to practitioners and providers and clients and cancer survivors. And finally it became real.”

Representatives from Congressman Steve Knight’s office, California State Senator Scott Wilk’s office, California State Assemblyman Donte Acosta’s office, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s office, the city of Santa Clarita and the chairman of the board of the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce presented Circle of Hope with certificates at the grand opening.

Rippling hopes residents of the Santa Clarita Valley will keep Circle of Hope and the new facility, Hope’s Haven, in mind if they are ever faced with cancer.

“Remember that we are here, when you hear of someone who is struggling, when you hear of someone who may need some help,” said Ripling. “We feel very strongly about our family, once you are a member of our family, you are a family member forever.”
