COC cross country, as well as track and field members, have teamed up to host the event, which is set to take place on the school’s Valencia campus on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22.
During the event, participants run a three-mile cross country course through the COC Valencia campus, beginning at the college’s baseball field and continuing through the campus, winding through the hills overlooking the Santa Clarita Valley, and finally finishing inside Cougar Stadium, according to officials.
“We’ve had kids as young as 5 and 6 years old. It is a 3-mile run so they run with their parents,” said Lindie Kane, head coach for the cross country and track teams. “Everybody gets a medal for completing the race. Community members have come out and walked it before; others run it.”
Kane, along with staff and students, organized the event to promote exercise and physical activity before holiday feasts.
“It’s just an event to get everyone together before their Thanksgiving meal and to lose those calories that they’ll get back later that day,” she said.
On the day of the event, Turkey Trot organizers plan to register runners at Cougar Stadium prior to the race. Pre-registration will not be available.
Before the race, runners will need to pay the $20 dollar entry fee, which includes a race T-shirt.
Finishing times for each participant will be announced at the end of the race. Awards will also be given to the top three men and women in each age division, according to officials.
