The horseback riding event was held to show residents what is available to them in their county, said Barger, who represents the fifth district, including the Santa Clarita Valley.

“The goal of this event is for people to see the multi-use trails in our community,” Barger said. “There are over 200 miles of trails within LA County for people to use.”

The event began at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast, and the three-and a-half hour trail ride began at 9 a.m.

Along the trail there were rest stops and refreshment centers for the riders to use.

The course lead riders through a combination of rolling hills, as well as minimally steep and sloping hills, according to event organizers.

At the end of the ride, attendees were treated to a barbecue lunch and live country-western music.

Horses were available to rent at the start of the ride.

Linda Howard is a Santa Clarita resident and horse rider. Events like this one are important to keep active and stay involved in the community, she said.

“Anytime there is a local ride whether it is with LA County or the police department,” Howard said, “I try to be there.”
