Deputies Locate Wanted Suspect With $1 Million In Warrants, Narcotics, Firearm

Santa Clarita deputies patrolling Canyon Country on Sandy Drive, located a wanted suspect who had $1 million worth of warrants levied against him along with a bag containing narcotics and a loaded firearm, earlier this week, officials said.

Two deputies working a crime suppression car Thursday night in Canyon Country spotted a man on Sandy Drive they recognized as a known warrant suspect.

As they got out of their patrol car to approach him, the suspect threw a black bag into the bushes.The deputies made contact with the suspect, Daniel Ustoa, 35, of Canyon Country, and confirmed that he had two $500,000 warrants in the system. They retrieved the bag that Ustoa threw in the bushes, and found that it contained a loaded firearm and methamphetamine.

Ustoa was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and additionally charged with felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, and possession of a controlled substance while armed.

The crime suppression car in Canyon Country is a no-call car which means deputies working the car are not assigned calls for service, so that they can concentrate solely on patrolling target-specific areas in Canyon Country.

Residents in various complexes have requested additional patrolling by deputies due to concern about crime, and that is exactly what the crime suppression car is designed to do. The mission is to proactively patrol targeted neighborhoods and help prevent crime before it happens.
