“We call it the ‘Victims Advocate Program’ and our ‘Domestic Violence Advocate’, Amanda Ellis, now has a new office in the Sheriff’s Station,” said Linda Davies, Executive Director of the Domestic Violence Center of SCV. “She’ll help domestic violence clients with creating the temporary restraining orders and work with deputies and detectives working on domestic violence cases.”

The DVC has had a relationship with the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station since 2015, helping clients that come into the station by talking or helping them understand how to file a temporary restraining order, according to Davies.

“The goal is to have someone be there as a ‘warm referral,’ or someone that can be there for a client when they come into the station,” said Davies. “Our domestic violence advocates and Sheriff’s deputies have a valuable relationship, whereas law enforcement is oftentimes looking into protection and solving the crime, while we work to empathize with the client and explain the importance of certain things.”

It is that relationship between the DVC and the Sheriff’s Station officials that Linda says can help deputies then create a more solidified relationship with the victims of the case they’re investigating.

“Our being there in the Station shows the client that the relationship between the Domestic Violence Center and law enforcement is important, and that our relationship with the victim is then important,” said Davies.

Davies said that the Domestic Violence Advocate in the Station had been temporarily relocated until a new office on site could be found for them.

And since their return to the Station in December, Ellis has seen at least “four or five clients a day coming through as either victims of domestic violence or people looking for more information,” according to Davies.

The “Domestic Violence Advocate” is scheduled to be at the Station on Tuesdays, Thursdays and every other Friday. Additionally, resources are available at the DVC all week for victims of domestic violence.

“It’s good that the DVC and the Sheriff’s Station are continuing to work together and strengthen our relationship, because we’ve already seen a huge difference,” said Davies. “We’ve seen more temporary restraining orders and more safety services being offered to victims of domestic violence. And it’s all due to us being a team.”

  1. HUGE favor! My publisher, Victor Volkman of Loving Healing Press wants to give out free copies of the 2nd edition of REPAIR Your Life, A Program for Recovery from Incest & Childhood Sexual Abuse to domestic violence shelters and women’s crisis centers in every state in the US.

Is there a way you could mention it on your radio show and get the word out that way? If you could let the Santa Clarita Domestic Violence Center know as well I would so much appreciate it. I don’t have their email address. All people need to do is send their email address to me at margie@thelamplighters.org with their mailing address and a request for the book. I will then forward it to Victor and he will get the book out to them.

That program, which I developed during my five years of recovery, took me from being married to my 3rd abuser, living part time in a women’s shelter and going through a sexual harassment suit against my boss all at the same time to being the happiest person I know. So that program works. It is in its 2nd edition and the Forward was written by Vincent J. Felitti who co-authored the ACE Study. Check out the many 5 star reviews on amazon. We also have REPAIR For Kids, REPAIR For Toddlers, REPAIR For Teens and REPAIR Your Life Workbook. If requested I’d bet Victor would be happy to send out free copies on any of the others as well as REPAIR Your Life.

    Please……………..
