According to people familiar with the incident, the Golden Valley school shooter threat that deputies responded to on April 13 was actually the result of a student threatening himself from an anonymous social media account he created. He then posted the thread online.

Because of state law regarding juveniles, the name of the suspect cannot be released; he was described only as a Santa Clarita Valley student.

Friday morning, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials announced that they had been made aware of a threat against a student at Golden Valley by another student.

In the alleged threat, made through an Instagram direct message, the student — from a social media account that he had created anonymously – told his actual Instagram account that he “will bring an AK-47” to “kill him.”

The first message concluded: “Looks like there might another school shooting. Can’t wait to kill that f***er.”

Parents called law enforcement officials after they saw a screenshot of the threat on a local Santa Clarita Facebook group.

Station officials confirmed that the school was not on lockdown. But according to students at Golden Valley, campus security was checking student ID’s as they entered the campus to ensure student safety.

After a subsequent investigation by the school resource officers and COBRA detectives, officials were able to identify the individual who made the post, according to officials.

“There were no weapons found at his house,” said Miller. “We implore you to please have the conversation with your children this weekend that making threats is no laughing matter.”

The 16-year-old student was detained and charged with criminal threats.
