Five teams from four schools took part in the annual cooking competition April 27 as part of the district’s career and college readiness program.

“The student team that won the competition will have their dish unveiled on the menu at Wolf Creek Restaurant and Brewing Company,” according to a statement from the district.

“The goal of the competition is to simulate a real-life kitchen,” said Mike McClintock, an instructor of the culinary arts for the Hart District.

Last year’s winning dish, a salad, will still be up on the menu. The new winner’s meal will also be featured on the menu.

The dishes for the 2018 competition had to feature a flat iron steak, but contestants were allowed to use any sauce or other ingredients in their dishes. The students cooked up a variety of dishes based on a prompt of “tropical surf and turf,” McClintock said.

The teams, each consisting of two to three students, had an hour to prepare their meals before a presentation to a panel of judges.

The decision will be made Wednesday, May 23 at 3:30 p.m. at Wolf Creek. The restaurant is located at 27746 Mcbean Pkwy.
