‘Helping Our Children Santa Clarita’ Opens To Aid Community

The charity organization, Helping Our Children Santa Clarita, recently started earlier this month, and KHTS had the opportunity to sit down with their “Chief Encouragement Officer” Bradley Grose to talk about the organization.

Helping Our Children Santa Clarita is a “legacy charity,” according to Grose, as it stemmed from Help the Children, a nonprofit that served in Santa Clarita for 20 years before it ultimately closed earlier this year.

“There was no way we could just walk away from something that is so important to our community,” Grose said. “You don’t think about it too much, but there’s a high level of people in need today in our community. So we wanted to continue giving back.”

Helping Our Children opened its doors on Nov. 7, and currently serves over 12,000 families in the Santa Clarita Valley. It is the only charity in the Santa Clarita Valley providing perishable grocery products to people and families in need, according to Grose.

“Helping Our Children is one of the major providers for a lot of the different organizations in town,” Grose said. “We provide food all across our valley.”

Helping Our Children provides food and supplies for several faith-based organizations in the Santa Clarita Valley, as well as the SCV Pregnancy Center, Veterans Collaborative and the local homeless population, according to officials.

The organization is able to do all of their outreach work through the efforts of their volunteers, Grose said.

“The primary volunteer force that we have is young people,” Grose said. “They’re learning about giving back to people. It’s wonderful.”

One source of these volunteers is through a program called Project Ironman. The project is a mentorship program between players on the Golden Valley varsity football team and NFL Alumni that aims to build responsible citizens that give back to the community, according to Grose.

“It’s been a real remarkable program,” Grose said. “It’s a program we innovated for the space of charity to give back to our community.”

On Wednesday, Helping Our Children and Project Ironman are set to provide Thanksgiving meals to families and people in need. The meals were donated by Albertsons, and include a pre-cooked turkey and sides.

“We’re still in the game, it just has a different name now,” Grose said. “We would greatly value any contributions, whether that be volunteering or doing food drives or donating online. That would be a tremendous help for us to continue doing what we do.”
