In a news release distributed on Monday, Kaiser Permanente Santa Clarita announced that it is accepting community grant applications for 2018.

“Kaiser Permanente’s social mission is to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve,” according to the statement. “The Kaiser Permanente Community Benefit Program addresses the needs and priorities identified through local needs assessments.”

The nonprofit organization will award grants to organizations that address at least one of the following areas, which include access to health care, economic security, mental and behavioral health, obesity, healthy eating active living (HEAL), diabetes, and oral health, according to the Kaiser Permanente website.

Other requirements for interested organizations include being a nonprofit organization or a local, state, or federal government agency operating for a public purpose, and providing services within Santa Clarita.

Organizations who provide services to the disadvantaged and underserved populations, addressing critical public health needs in our community, and having submitted evaluation reports for all historical grants will also be considered, according to officials.

In 2017 alone, Kaiser Permanente Santa Clarita Valley awarded more than $62,000 in grants to eight local nonprofit organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club and the Child & Family Center, according to officials.

“(The) Child & Family Center received a $15,000 grant to be used for School Based Counseling groups,” said Cheryl Jones, Vice President of Marketing and Community Outreach for the Child & Family Center. “Kaiser Permanente has been funding our School Based Counseling groups for several years.  It provides early intervention and prevention for children who may be at risk of developing more serious emotional or behavioral issues.”

Kaiser Permanente will be accepting applications from Feb. 15 to March 15.
