Shannon Gonzales, a graphic designer and artist at KHTS Hometown Station, took a moment from creating graphics to talk about her experience as a digital artist.

Gonzales has been working at sharpening her design skills ever since she was in fourth grade, with the hope of one day becoming a working artist.
“I was always interested in art, and was always drawing and painting and doing all sorts of crafts,” said Gonzales. “I started teaching myself Photoshop just for fun because I knew it was something I wanted to do.”
A graphic designer’s responsibilities at KHTS are to create web ads, as well as images for the KHTS website and social media accounts.
Gonzales started at KHTS as an intern in February 2017 and was hired later that summer as a member of the web department.
The digital creator appreciates the opportunities she encounters to learn new skills as she takes on different projects.
“One of the things I like best about my job here is there’s always something new to do. I’m always learning new skills, little techniques and shortcuts that I had no idea about,” said Gonzales.
Gonzales finds the challenges in her work to be rewarding in her efforts to create commercial digital art work.
“The most difficult thing, I would say, is getting all the right amount of information in a single picture,” said Gonzales. “I have to make a way for it to fit into one space. I sometimes make three to four drafts before I’m done.”
Gonzales shared one of her most memorable moments while working at KHTS as a graphic designer.
“One thing I’ll always remember here is the first Home and Garden Show that I worked,” said Gonzales. “All the work I had to do in preparation and then actually working the event… It was hard work, but it paid off.”
