Over 200 applicants came to the event, with 191 applying to be a Deputy Sheriff Trainee, and 27 applying to be a Reserve Deputy Sheriff, according to officials.
Deputies at the event credited the large number of applicants to the fact that they allowed walk-in applicants for the event. While around 90 people applied ahead of time, the rest of the applicants were all walk-ins, according to officials.
Applicants arrived at College of the Canyons at 8 a.m. and began the process by taking a written test. Afterwards, if the applicant passed the written exam, they would move on to a physical test, which involved a 1.5 mile run, push-ups, sit-ups, and an obstacle course.
Once an applicant completed and passed the two exams, officials said that they could be heading to the academy in four to six months, as certain things such as paperwork, background checks, and psychological evaluations.
