The 2017 Memorial Torch Relay Run honors six law enforcement personnel who have fallen in the line of duty, according to officials

Three have lost their lives in the line of duty since 2016 — Sergeant Alfonso Lopez and Sergeant Steven C. Owen, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and Officer Keith Wayne Boyer, Whittier Police Department.

The run of 58 legs began its journey from downtown Los Angeles on Friday. The Memorial Torch will pass each of the mainland LASD Sheriff’s stations over the course of three days, said officials.

Monday evening, the run started at Poe Parkway, traveled to SCV Sheriff’s Station, then went down Soledad towards the direction of Sierra Hwy in Canyon Country.

All Department Members, sworn and professional, all other police agencies, as well as family members and friends were invited to participate in any leg of the Torch Relay, according to organizers.

The Memorial Torch pass each of the mainland Sheriff’s stations over the course of three days. Nearly 2,000 runners are set to participate in the relay.
