As a former special education teacher with a passion for supporting literacy, Aronson wanted to help get the club’s children excited about reading by donating both audio and paperback books written by L. Ron Hubbard.  Nola Aronson Of Advanced Audiology Donates Books To Santa Clarita Boys & Girls Club

“I believe that books make people smarter, and when you know how to read you can find out all kinds of things and you can really grow,” she said. “All the kids got a book, and they were all excited because they were all adventure stories and science fiction stories.”

Part of Aronson’s goal in making the donation was to support nationwide efforts to improve literacy.

“The average reading level of a person in the United States is third grade, and it’s very hard to get anywhere if that’s all you can read,” she explained. “Having these great stories will encourage kids, I hope, to read.”

Immediately following her delivery of the books to the Boys & Girls Club of SCV, Aronson also presented a check for $2,500 as a “Silver Sponsor” of the organization’s 46th annual benefit auction “Vegas Baby,” which took place on June 3.

The sponsorship, coupled with the book donation, is part of Aronson’s ongoing efforts to support nonprofits in the Santa Clarita Valley by donating 10 percent of her proceeds from hearing aid sales every month.

“I like to give back to my community. Santa Clarita is a wonderful community, and we have over 100 nonprofit organizations,” Aronson said. “It makes not only me feel really good that I’m helping out, but it makes the patient feel good. When you buy a hearing aid through me, 10 percent of that, you’re donating back to your community.”

  1. We should not be pushing the Scientology Religion on young children!

    • Yes “Ken”…. science fiction books are going to warp their minds…..you have no clue about which you are protesting….and if you think you are “protecting” children, don’t be so hypocritical…..

      • “Jewels” You have every right to follow the teahings of L Ron Hubbard.
If the Pope wrote a book, it too would not be appropriate to give to the children of the Boys and Girls club without parential permission.

Of all the age appropriate books that could be donated, why give them a book written by the founder of the Church of Scientology from 50 years ago instead of a book approved by the school district.

    • Look at the books. L. Ron Hubbard was one of the most popular authors of pulp fiction in this country. They have nothing to do with religion.

  2. I think it is wonderful that they are donating books to encourge children to read,
but the books should be approved by the parents and the school district.

L Ron Hubbard is the founder of Scientology. Both are very controversial and not a proper
source for teaching childen to read. Let’s find some better books to donate!

  3. This is considered “community support”??? If my child showed up from school with a book which has an image of a woman with a martini or a huge GUN depicted on the cover, I’d be marching it right into the principal’s office. Smells more like Scientology propaganda to me. The subject matter of these books is very outdated and not appropriate for promoting literacy as Nola states. Ridiculous
