The event is scheduled for Feb. 11 at the Rancho Camulos National Historic Landmark, near Piru, at 2 p.m., according to a news release.

“This reenactment commemorates author Helen Hunt Jackson’s Jan. 23, 1882 visit that inspired her to make this California Rancho one of the settings for her novel ‘Ramona,” according to the news release.

Jackson’s novel, published in 1884, tells the story of the titular Ramona, a Scots-Native American orphan who falls in love with a Native American worker who lives on the ranch where she lives.

The story focuses on the mistreatment of Native Americans and has been adapted to film several times.

“Re-enactors will engage and delight you as they portray this event which forever changed the peaceful life at Rancho Camulos,” the news release said. “One of the

highlights of this year’s event will be the appearance of actress Kayla Contreras, who currently stars as Ramona in the Hemet Ramona Outdoor Pageant.”
The event will cost $5 for adults, and children 12 and under are free.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
