In May 2016, the City of Santa Clarita and Los Angeles County officials set plans to construct a new $62 million, 45,000 square foot Sheriff’s station, along with a 4,000 square foot vehicle maintenance facility and helipad to serve the entire Santa Clarita Valley.

Two years later, Arcadis U.S., Inc., has been hired for the construction management of the new project for the station in the amount of $1,374,658, according to the City’s agenda.

Arcadis U.S., Inc. was chosen over other management companies because of their highest firm rankings’ score of 90, their experience and completeness of their proposal, interview responses, demonstration of an in-depth understanding of the project needs, as well as provided the most qualified construction managers and supporting staff, according to officials.

In addition to the new Sheriff’s station, the city council plans to establish a “dollar-for-dollar” grant match in the amount of $75,000 to Homes For Families.

In Santa Clarita, a plan was developed to build 78 homes as part of the Enriched Neighborhood Affordable Housing Veterans’ project.

Currently, 60 affordable homes have been built and the remaining 18 are planned to be completed by the first quarter of 2019.

However, due to increased construction costs, Homes for Families has faced unanticipated costs during phases one through three of the project, according to officials.

Those increased costs have taken away resources from other Homes for Families services and programs such as social service initiatives and programs in an affordable neighborhood honoring veterans.

Homes for Families is seeking $150,000, and staff is recommending $75,000 in matching grant funding to help with fulfilling this need.
