“With New Year’s Eve just a few weeks away, the city of Santa Clarita is offering a cash reward up to $500, in the hopes that someone will come forth with valuable information that may lead to the citation(s) of the person or persons responsible for illegal firework activity in the city,” said an official news release.

Each year, on major holidays that are associated with fireworks, the City works with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station to ensure that illegal firework laws are enforced.

“The City works closely with (the Sheriff’s Station) to ensure additional staffing is in place to crackdown on illegal firework activity and educate the community on the potential dangers related to illegal firework activity,” said the news release. “These strategies and actions are typically implemented around the Fourth of July and New Year holidays when firework activity is most likely to occur.”’

The reward program stipulated that the money would only be distributed to those who provide information which leads to the “successful citation” of the individuals who are committing the crime.

“The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station will notify the city should a citation be written wherein the citation was issued with the help of community members who contributed information leading to the arrest,” the news release said. “The contributors will then be eligible to collect their reward.”

The Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station had run similar firework suppression campaigns over this past fourth of July, issuing eight citations over the course of Independence Day, 2017.
