The Santa Clarita Public Library’s services are set to transition from a private vendored system to a city-managed system, according to officials.

City of Santa Clarita staff members are set to present the Santa Clarita City Council with an agenda item on Jan. 9 to transition the Santa Clarita Public Library’s services — currently under a contract with Library Systems and Services, LLC — to an in-house city-managed service, according to a news release.

“The City of Santa Clarita assumed responsibility for public library services in July 2011 with the goal of improving services for the Santa Clarita community,” the news release explained. “Since this transition, library hours and the annual budget for books and materials were increased, and the Old Town Newhall Library was opened on Main Street.”
The City of Santa Clarita has succeeded in improving public library services, and continues to do so by proposing to transition library services in-house, according to officials.

“Compared to the current contracted structure, the city will provide a higher staffing level and a competitive pay and benefits structure to attract and retain talented public library professionals to provide Santa Clarita residents with high-quality public library services,” the news release continued.
The Jan. 9 City Council meeting is open to the public and is set to be held in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard
