The yearly Halloween haunt benefits the Boys & Girls Club of the Santa Clarita Valley featuring haunted jailhouse tours, a costume contest, games, first responder demonstrations and a petting zoo.

“We have been doing this for almost 30 years,” said Matthew Nelson, CEO of the Santa Clarita Boys & Girls Club. “There are some people that have started going as a kid and are now taking their own.”

The theme for this year’s haunted house was “Dollhouse,” which included dozens of dismembered dolls as guests ventured deeper into the jailhouse.

For the younger children, there was also a haunt with the lights on and carnival games.

“We had haunted houses for kids of all ages,” said Nelson. “The event has turned into a staple in Santa Clarita, and we wanted to thank the community for their continued support”

The haunts were designed and built by the teens of the Boys & Girls Club to give them an opportunity to work hand-in-hand with the deputies.

Next year’s haunted jailhouse could be the last at the current Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station, with the new one on Golden Valley Road set to be completed by 2020.

“The new station could give this event a chance to grow into something even bigger,” said Nelson.

The Santa Clarita Boys & Girls Club serves over 1,600 local children and teens with after school supervision, homework help, opportunities for youth sports, STEM programs, and games.

The club’s next event is the annual Festival of Trees set for Nov. 17 and 18.
