Residents are invited on Feb. 15 to bring unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs to the sheriff’s station for disposal – no questions asked, said Sheriff’s officials

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is located at 23740 Magic Mountain Parkway. The drop-off times will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Participants are asked to put medications in a sealed bag for drop-off. Illicit drugs, biohazard waste, needles and other sharps will not be accepted, according to officials.

Residents may dispose of needles and syringes in the sharps disposal receptacle that is located in front of the sheriff’s station.

Consumers and caregivers should remove expired, unwanted, or unused medicines from their home as quickly as possible to help reduce the chance that others may accidentally take or intentionally misuse the unneeded medicine, according to the DEA.

Another option for consumers and long-term care facilities, like nursing homes, to dispose of unneeded medicines is to transfer unused medicines to collectors registered with the DEA. DEA-authorized collectors safely and securely collect and dispose of pharmaceuticals containing controlled substances and other medicines.
