“The Veteran Center will now be open on the first, second and third Saturdays of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in order to facilitate weekenders, and plans are also underway to expand those benefit assistance days to weekdays,” according to a Veterans Services Collaborative news release.

This comes on the heels of the grand opening of the Veteran Center, which was attended by hundreds of Santa Clarita residents, local leaders and politicians.

“The Veteran Center is a place where veterans who are disabled or who have injuries from war, are able to come meet with government officials to receive different benefits,” said Elliott Wolfe, who heads the Santa Clarita Veterans Services Collaborative.

In addition to giving assistance to those seeking help with their government benefits, veterans who are interested in having meetings or parties during evenings or the weekend, are also invited to use the Veteran Center’s facilities and resources, according to officials.

“To all veterans, there’s now a local destination where the primary mission is to be of complete service,” said the news release.

Everything that is offered to the veterans comes from donations by different resources throughout Santa Clarita.

“Of course, we have wi-fi, and as of the beginning of March our television set is up and running,” said Wolfe.

The Veteran Center is located at 23222 Lyons Avenue in Newhall.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
