The City of Santa Clarita is working on road resurfacing Soledad Canyon Road, from Sierra Highway to Sand Canyon. The work is part of the City’s annual Road Rehab project, to improve City roadways and extend their life. Paving on Soledad Canyon Road is scheduled to be complete by September 5. Construction hours are from 8:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
Soledad Canyon Road is receiving a slurry seal treatment, which is a maintenance treatment that requires construction to take place in multiple phases, extending work across several days. Pre-work and repairs have already been completed along this road and paving is currently underway.
Due to the nature of a slurry seal treatment, there is a temporary anticipated loss of asphalt material which may appear as shedding of pavement. On average, 10 percent of pavement material is lost over the first 30 days. This fluctuates depending on traffic.
To address the loose asphalt, a periodic street sweeping on the affected roadways, sidewalks and driveways will be scheduled during the first 30 days after the treatment has been applied, to reduce loose gravel and debris. The street sweeping occurs on the third, seventh and fourteenth day after slurry seal is applied. Street sweeping cannot occur the same night of paving as the pavement requires some time to set to prevent damage on the new layer.
The City of Santa Clarita appreciates the community’s cooperation and support, and will work hard to minimize inconvenience. More information on the Road Rehab project can be found at here.

Worst resurfacing job ever. The road is now as rough as a dirt road, uncomfortable to drive on, and a complete “slurry mess”! I wish they never did a thing. Santa Clarita spends way too much time and money on roadwork that is totally unnecessary. And what is with this make the center curb and medians disappear?? Shoddy workmanship constantly. Is this crap just to justify an unnecessary fiscal budget. A total sham and disgrace. The road is way worse to drive on than it was before. STOP WASTING TIME AND MONEY!!!!
