Deputies received the call of a possible overdose at 8:45 p.m., after the decedent’s roommate returned to their Canyon Country trailer park home and found him unresponsive.
Sheriff’s Station officials quickly began administering CPR and attempted to use Naloxone, the drug designed to fight opioid overdoses that patrolling deputies are now required to carry within the Santa Clarita Valley, according to officials.

However, the efforts of the deputies and the paramedics, that arrived shortly thereafter, were unsuccessful.
“Deputies arrived and found an unresponsive male, an empty syringe and a balloon that is typically used to package heroin,” said Sgt. Konecny, Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station. “The deputies on scene assumed it was a drug overdose.”
Officials confirmed the victim to be a 39-year-old, white male, but they could not confirm an ID at this time, pending the notification of the man’s next of kin.

Detectives are still investigating the cause, and the official determination has not been made at this time.
“Paramedics took over CPR and approximately 30 minutes later they pronounced time of death at (9:21 p.m.),” said Konecny.
The cause of death is a suspected drug overdose, but first-responders notified the LASD Homicide Bureau, according to officials.
“It’s a continuing reminder of the nature of the epidemic of heroin and opiate use,” said Bob Sharits, founder of The Way Out recovery and treatment center, in a previous KHTS story. “As a community, we need to continue to provide resources to people who are trying to get help, as well as continuing to talk openly about it.”
