When motorcyclist Sammy Choy tried to pass a slow-moving passenger car on New Year’s Day, resulting in a fatal collision, he left a wife, Seasons Choy, and two children, Emyly (14) and JC (12) behind.
Since then, members of the community have reached out to the Choy family, organizing a motorcycle ride in his honor and a fundraiser at Jersey Mike’s subs.

Now, four months later, another fundraiser will be held in the Albertsons parking lot in Saugus. Members of the community are invited to stop by on Saturday to enjoy a barbecue, cotton candy, snow cones, raffle and a motorcycle show.
“All benefits are going to go strictly to the Choy family,” said friend of the family Peter Austel, “because she’s a single mom now with two kids.”
The event truly is a community effort. Businesses from all over the Santa Clarita Valley have offered their products or services to help made the fundraiser a success. In addition to offering the use of their parking lot, Albertsons will run the barbeque, having donated the food in addition to gift baskets for the raffle.
Local restaurants such as Sisley Italian Kitchen, B.J.’s, Tilly’s and Juice It Up donated gift cards. Other prizes include a television, bicycle, motorcycle ramp and more. AV Party Rentals donated the tables and gave a discount on the cotton candy and snow cone machines.
Seasons Choy is thankful for all of the support. “I’m truly, truly grateful to the community. Me and my husband both grew up out here, so I’m very, very grateful for the way the community has stepped up and helped out—restaurants, vendors, everybody. It’s just been amazing how much people have stepped up to help.”
Members of the community will be running the event and hope for a large turnout to raise as much money for the Choy family as possible. The fundraiser will start at 10 a.m. and go until 5 p.m. Saturday.
