Community Supporter Ron Murphy Dies

Magic Maintenance owner Ronald Murphy died Wednesday after a long bout with cancer.

Murphy and his wife, Jeanie were both active as volunteers with local charities. Ron was an avid golfer and loved his family. He supported several community groups, including the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer, the SCV Boys and Girls Club and the HMNMH Foundation, along with several others.

“Ron and Jeanie have been big supporters of the Michael Hoefflin Foundation as long as I have been involved,” said Scott Schauer, former executive director of MHF. “Ron was just the kind of guy who was always giving to a lot of causes. If he wasn’t giving to the foundation, he was recruiting me to help with another one. I know he was involved with the hospital and he helped the Boys and Girls Club too.

“He was a great guy who loved golf. I remember when he was diagnosed, he would come to the golf course, play a couple of holes, then go home and take a nap. He went through this battle for quite a long time. They are the nicest couple, not only do they have their business here, they are active in the community. He loved golf and loved his family. He’d always ask me about my family when I saw him.”

According to a published obituary, Murphy was born in Indianapolis and had lived in Santa Clarita since 1979. He is survived by his wife, two sons, three grandsons, his father and stepmother and one brother.

A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Robinson Ranch Golf Course. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the City of Hope.
