Local Certified Public Account Gary E. Condie was awarded the California Society of CPAs prestigious Public Service Award on June 19 at the society’s annual meeting, which was held at the Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Francisco. The meeting marked the 100th anniversary of the organization.
The California Society of CPAs is the nation’s largest state accounting organization and the largest CPA association in California. It serves 35,000 members in public practice, private industry, education and government. Its headquarters are located in Redwood City, CA.
On hand for the awards ceremony was Barry Melancon, President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Melancon had traveled from New York City in order to participate in the society’s 100 year anniversary celebration. The AICPA is the nation’s largest professional organization of CPAs with over 350,000 members.
Condie was recognized for his long-term public service and its positive, significant impact on the community. Condie’s service has benefited the William S. Hart School District, College of the Canyons, Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club, Henry Mayo Memorial Hospital, Santa Clarita Valley InterFaith Council, Boy Scouts of America, and the American Cancer Society among others.
Condie is the 2005 Santa Clarita Valley Man of the Year. In 2006 he was given the Leaders of Character Award by the Boy Scouts of America. Condie has twice been named by The Signal as one of the Top 51 most influential people in the Santa Clarita Valley. He has also previously been named by the Los Angeles Business Journal and the San Fernando Business Journal as one of the top accounting executives in Los Angeles County.
Condie is a graduate of Brigham Young University. He and his wife Myrna live in Stevenson Ranch. Myrna is the 2009 California Mother of the Year.
