Cooley Moves Slightly Ahead Of Harris As More Votes Counted

cooleysteveIn a race still too close to call, Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley has eked slightly ahead of challenger, San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris, leading by three-tenths of a percentage point in the race to become California’s next Attorney General.

As of 11:51 a.m. Monday, Cooley had 3,674,316 votes to Harris’ 3,655,127; or 46.0 percent of the vote compared to 45.7. More than 2.3 million Vote By Mail, Provisional and Other ballots remain to be counted.

Vote By Mail and Provisional ballots are counted after signatures are verified against voter records. Ballots classified as “Other” are those damaged or unreadable by machine counters that are tallied after being remade by county election staff.
