The body found by firefighters off Templin Highway above Castaic on Monday was confirmed Thursday to be that of a black woman of unknown age, according to Sheriff’s Homicide investigators.
Detective Frank Salerno said that an autopsy had been conducted by the coroner on Thursday and that the cause of death was not immediately apparent.
“The cause of death is still pending,” he said.

Salerno said that traces of burlap were found around the charred corpse and that “portions of her body did have some restrictive material wrapped around it.”
He added that they were reluctant to reveal what kind of material it was so as not to compromise the investigation.
The woman has not yet been identified.
