County Budget Claims To Beef Up Safety Funding

$22 Billion budget said to support Sheriff, DA

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich issued the following statement on the Chief Administrative Officer’s 2007-08 budget:

“This budget recognizes the vital need to restore past cuts in public safety that will add an additional 187 positions to the Sheriff’s Department.  The Probation Department will receive 45 new positions and the District Attorney’s Office will have additional 25 positions — including 14 deputy District Attorneys at several new courts to handle increased workloads.

The budget also provides funding to make up for shortfalls in vital capital projects for park expansion and four County libraries.  To protect seniors, it increases funding for adult protective services and adds funding for regional planning for needed upgrades to improve services to the public.”
