County Departments to Explore Eviction of Sex Offender

Los Angeles – The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich directing County Departments to explore how to evict a registered sex offender from county housing located directly across the street from a Santa Clarita Valley day-care center and K-5 private school, and close to several other schools and parks.
Orchard Arms is a federally assisted senior and disabled housing complex owned and managed by the Los Angeles County Housing Authority.  Federal law prohibits the Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles from admitting to any of its federally assisted housing complexes any individual subject to lifetime registration as a sex offender.

“County taxpayers must not be required to pay for the public housing of a registered sex offender in close proximity to schoolchildren.  This action follows the establishment of the County’s Amber Alert system and the Sex Offender Locator website I initiated in 2002.  The public needs to be empowered with information so they can protect themselves and their families.  Our children must be allowed to play in our neighborhoods and learn at our schools without fear of abduction or molestation,” said Supervisor Antonovich.
