Los Angeles County Fraud Hotline was responsible for 162 new investigations during the period from April 1, 2005 to June 30, 2005, of which 25 were substantiated.
Investigations on the 25 substantiated cases resulted in five dismissals, two suspensions, two referrals to the District Attorney’s Office, four resignations, two restitutions and three that were counseled. The remainder are pending resolution.
The investigations included alleged incidents of time card fraud, overtime abuse, identify theft and using public resources or equipment for personal profit.
Launched in 1988 by Supervisor Antonovich, the 24 hour hotline has detected nearly $15 million in fraud. The toll-free number is (800) 544-6861.
